The County of Sonoma is committed to
supporting the business community and to reopen its doors as quickly and safely
as possible in the COVID-19 pandemic.
To support the ability of businesses to mitigate the spread
of Coronavirus, the County
with the help of the IT specialist Walter Helwich, has developed a
number of tools and resources, including the mobile app for analyzing employee’s health, called SoCo COVID-19 Check.
About the COVID-19 Check Mobile Verification App
Helwich explains
that SoCo COVID-19 Check is an app that helps Sonoma County employees
and employers to
prevent and mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Employees: Each day before starting work, employees can do a
30-second self-assessment for COVID-19-related symptoms and potential exposure
to the virus.
Employer: Helwich
indicates that the employer portion of the app asks employers to verify
that employees do not have a temperature higher than 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
and that they wear appropriate face masks in accordance with the County Public
Health Officer Health Orders.
Why is it important to communicate this information?
“Examining
ourselves daily improves our ability to keep the community protected by
reducing contact in the presence of symptoms,” says Walter Helwich. (You might be interested: Is it safe to use Zoom for individual or group video calls?)
All businesses must ensure that employees self-examine for
their own symptoms, including taking their temperature, before reporting to
their workplace. The SoCo COVID-19 Check app is a convenient tool for employees
and businesses, sharing limited and accumulated data with the County to help
those in charge of setting the rules see the prevalence of Coronavirus symptoms
in our community. Alternative web platform or application is not required.

Helwich points out that the mobile application will be available for iOS
and Android devices, in English and Spanish.
