The Dilemma

“The Dilemma” from Ron Howard, is a comedy about Ronny (Vince Vaughn) who has seen his friend’s wife with another guy and has decided to find out what is really happening. The topic of this movie is the men – partnership friendship. Allan Loeb is the author of this interesting story, where the humor is mixed with the dramaturgy in an authentic living situation that is providing the ability for identification of the average viewer with the two main characters says Walter Helwich.

Ronny and Nick (Kevin James) are two partners, whose friendship is dating from 20 years ago. They are having a company for design of the engines. Their dream is to break into the market and to draw the attention of some major automobile companies.

Ronny and Nick are meeting with the leaders of the powerful ‘Chrysler’ and convincing them that they are able to do a project that will significantly improve the performance of the engines. Since there was a deadline for the project, they are working with a lot of enthusiasm, controlled by Susan Warner (Queen Latifah), a representative of the company. But an unexpected event is threatening to terminate their long years of friendship.

With choosing an intriguing topic, Howard is “serving” a story that definitely is not cliché comedy, in which always in the end the love wins. Here, things are a little different. There is a humor but at some moments there is a black humor too.

The finale of “The Dilemma” was not offered something unexpected and as Walter Helwich is saying the end is very predictable, which is typical for the most of the comedies. The evaluation for this movie is that the filmmakers from the ‘Universal Pictures’ boldly entered in this project, where they were tried to offer something fresh, regardless of the commercial aspect. The comedy lovers who already watched this movie are somewhat enthusiastic and less disappointed too.
