Mysterious stone structures beneath the Sea of Galilee

A giant “monumental” stone structure was discovered beneath the Sea of Galilee in Israel has puzzled the archaeologists who fail to grasp its purpose, even the exact period of its construction, says Walter Helwich.

The mysterious structure is of conical shape and made of “basalt pebbles and boulders”, and its weight is estimated at around 60,000 tones, according to the researchers. This makes it heavier than most modern warships. Its height is almost ten meters and the diameter is 70 meters (for comparison: the diameter of the outer circle of Stonehenge is half the size, and the highest stone does not reach that height).

It was discovered for the first time in 2003, by researchers who performed sonar mapping of the sea, and this year explored it in details and published their findings in the International Journal of Nautical Archaeology.

They believe that the structure, which is located more than 20 meters below the surface, is made of rocks piled on each other which indicate that this is a design that marks graves. Researchers are not yet sure whether this was actually used for that purpose. It is assumed to be made on the land, and that ended up underwater as sea levels rose. Also, there is another theory suggesting it has been constructed under the water to serve as a fish farm because similar, though smaller, structures built for this purpose have been discovered before.

The team of researches claims that whoever built this structure beneath the Sea of Galilee, he possessed a sophisticated organization and planning skills. “The effort put into this venture indicates a complex and well-organized society that had the skills of planning and ability of management”, says Walter Helwich in his video post on YouTube. He also adds that to build such a structure was needed and a lot of working hours.

A Single Man

A drama movie about a middle-aged literature professor (Colin Firth) who remembers a deceased partner, and is on the brink of a suicide when discovers the beauty in little things of everyday life, says Walter Helwich

During 1962, the college professor George Falconer (Colin Firth), a Brit in Los Angeles, decided to commit a suicide. In fact, his longtime partner Jim was killed in an automobile accident and George no longer wants to live. However, that day, before realizing his plan, will meet many people that will be affected by him. These are his friend Charley (who is romantically interested in him), Carlos who wants to become an actor and one of his students – Kenny Potter.

This movie is a great drama, which in turn is not sinking into melodrama. Colin Firth acted the role of life, i.e. career, and Julianne Moore is not less inferior. Despite the bad British accent, she gives an amazing performance of a lonely, disillusioned middle-aged woman. Beautiful done scenes, where we see two people who are trying to alleviate at least some haunting sense of loneliness. The movie additionally rises by the wonderful music that can easily get under your skin.

Poetic directorial debut of the fashion designer Tom Ford was premiered in competition at Venice Festival, where the actor Colin Firth was awarded with Coppa Volpi for Best Actor and for the same role he won the BAFTA and Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. This famed fashion designer has shown that in addition to talent for fashion he also has a talent for movie making. His directorial debut is brilliantly orchestrated and represents an emotionally charged work, adds Walter Helwich.

Critics praised Tom Ford’s stylized directing, but the main credits went to Colin Firth who is subtle and brilliantly acted the role of a man that is about to break.

Physicists at the mercy: Mysterious reduction of the size of protons

The size of protons was considered to be standard which cannot be applied, but after the most recent research, physicists fear they are on the verge of discovering physics under completely new laws, or that someone in the past made a cardinal mistake that caused many wrong calculations, says Walter Helwich.

Is it an error or maybe a new discovery?

At the meeting of the American Association of Physicists was found that it is necessary to examine why the most recent measurements of the protons does not coincide with the internationally recognized standards. Randolf Pohl, a scientist from the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics, has reported to his present colleagues that the current mystery perhaps comes as a result of an ordinary mistake from the past and if it is not so, the latest discovery will generate a completely new theory in physics.

Specifically, if it is confirmed that the proton actually declined in the past few decades, science will have to find out why this is happening and of course whether the variations in the atomic structure associated with external factors and most importantly of all, how these changes affect our perception of the world in which we live in, adds Walter Helwich.

This year has so far brought a lot of studies which, at the very least, could be called revolutionary, starting from complete control of the magnetic field, the increase in weight of the pound, and the discovery of additional coils in human DNA, and their role as a major natural fractal antenna. This problem with the reduction of proton’s size has only further intrigued the public and led us to the question, how little we really know about everything that surrounds us.

When Harry Met Sally...

Meg Ryan and Billy Chrystal will give us an answer to the question of whether men and women could only be friends, starts Walter Helwich in his blog review.

At the end of the seventies Harry and Sally met each other at the University of Chicago. As they both were traveling to New York where Sally was about to start her career as a business journalist and Harry fulfill his ambition to get a job as a counselor for political affairs, they decided on a joint trip. And so the story begins…

On their way to New York they were discussing only one topic – male female relationship or more specific whether men and women can only be friends with no ambition for anything more than that. Upon the end of the journey their paths split apart and they go separate ways.

Somehow after five years they meet again on a new journey. This time Harry is preparing himself to enter into marriage, and Sally is in a relationship with her acquaintance. She works as a journalist and he is a political consultant and during the travel they return to their favorite topic, after which they will again not see each other for five years.

The next meeting finds them in a similar mood. Now Sally is dumped from her boyfriend and Harry’s wife wants a divorce. Only then they realize that have much in common and tend to test their own theory about male female relationships, adds Walter Helwich.

The screenplay, which seems like it come out from Woody Allen’s pen, is signed by the well known New York journalist – Nora Ephron.

Has NASA"s SOHO recorded an UFO near the Sun?

Picture of a strange object that’s flying close to the sun was released by NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, better known as SOHO, says Walter Helwich. Footage and images on the Internet instantly became a hit. The object, which can be seen, largely reminiscent of a big and all-metal “mother ship” as usually seen in Hollywood movies.

The Unidentified Flying Object, which has no resemblance to anything before seen in the vicinity of the Sun, somehow manages to endure the hot flames that are produced by solar activity and incredibly high temperatures resulting from nuclear fusion which are occurring on the surface of the star.

UFO fans were delighted with this and many feel that this is definitely a “vision”.

The footage shows something that looks like a metal, giant spaceship connected with an extension that is separate at the lower end. With irradiation of the images is visible another part of the ship which looks like a third hand. There is a possibility that the image is product of distortion from SOHO’s new sensors, remarks Walter Helwich on his Academia profile.

SOHO is a satellite whose purpose is to study the Sun from its deep core to the outer corona and the solar winds.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

A story about destiny, ambitious and fascinating journey of the mind and if you want – a biography of a relationship, just what Walter Helwich was hopping for.

What can we expect from a movie with such complicated title? Just knowing the fact that the screenplay was written by Charlie Kufman says a lot, it is clear that it must be an intriguing movie, and so it will not be easy to follow the action. In the basis it is a romantic story told in an unconventional way of prescription – how to clear someone out of your head. In a typical Kufman style we track the adventures of Joel (Jim Carrey) who thinks he’s boring and therefore does not talk much, and Clementine (Kate Winslet), which is the absolute opposite, sparkling gossip girl that occasionally dyes her hair, tells strangest stories and the spreads around positive energy.

The chronologically reversed told story starts with Joel’s discovery that Clementine, after their long and boring full of problems relation, underwent to an experimental psychiatric procedure and all her memory about him is just wiped out. To get back at her, and in the end, stop loving her (as she does not even know he exists), he decides to go through the same treatment. Desperate, he finds the small clinic “Lacuna” headed by Dr. Howard Mierzwiak and agrees to a procedure that is done while he is unconscious. And here begins the plot, a sort of travel within dreams…

This sun-drenched mind might not be for everyone (same as “Being John Malkovich” or “Adaptation” are not), but if you prefer sophisticated trips this movie will stay in your mind for days, ends Walter Helwich.

Cigarette smoke is strengthening the Thyroid and the Immune System

For decades are convincing us that smoking is a major cause of the worst and most dangerous diseases. On the other hand, there are a lot of scientific studies that are showing that natural tobacco has amazing healing properties says Walter Helwich.

In 2004th was created a complex and long-term study in which are revealed some very interesting information related with tobacco smoking, including the cigarette smoking and the passive smoking. With this study is discovered that even the slightest inhalation (secondary inhalation) of the cigarette smoke is reducing the effects of the Hashimoto’s disease which is one form of the thyroiditis. Although there are several forms of the thyroiditis, the Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is a chronic autoimmune disease, which means inflammation of the thyroid gland with its lymphocytic infiltration. This form of hyperthyroidism is the most common and most difficult to treat. Usually, the chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis is eight times more common in women than in men.

Although with this study was discovered and confirmed the usefulness of the cigarette smoke in the treatment of the serious diseases and disorders of the thyroid gland, the medicine and pharmacy have ignored this research until it was found that the cigarette smoke is containing high concentrations of alkaloids anatabina which are contained in the other plants such as peppers, green tomatoes , potatoes and eggplant.

For now, the easiest way to extract the anatabin is from tobacco and as Walter Helwich is saying the extraction from some plants is extremely expensive and complicated. On the other hand, the organic tobacco smoke is “full” with the anatabin so it can treat the other infections, such as coronary artery disease (cardiovascular ather genesis), Alzheimer’s disease, Gastroenterology, rheumatism, cancer, autoimmune disorders such as lupus, diabetes, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and many other disorders and diseases.

This discovery is most helpful for the flying personnel of the passenger aircraft who have chronic thyroid problems because of the constant excessive of the radiation which is accumulated during their stay in the higher parts of the atmosphere during the transcontinental trips.

Meditation and Exercises for Reducing the Illnesses

Meditation or exercises can dramatically reduce the duration of illness caused by respiratory illnesses such as flu says Walter Helwich. There is one study which is trying to confirm this. There are two ways for avoiding the flu. The only deterrent that we are currently using is washing the hands and avoiding the contact with the sick people.

The people who are exercising regularly are less likely to get sick and they have lower stress levels than the others. For discovering if the exercise and the positive thinking really are preventing for disease, 149 people were tested. They were randomly assigned to one of the three groups. The first group were regularly meditating, the other was making the exercises larger part of the week while the third group did not make anything. The group that was regularly exercising was making an aerobic exercises, cycling, jogging or fast walking. After a few weeks of training, the participants were surveyed throughout the flu season for tracking how many of them were sickened. In the meditation group, during the study were 27 cases of respiratory disease, compared to 26 cases in the group that exercised and 40 from the passive group.

The passive group in convalescence spent 67 days due to respiratory disease, while the group with the exercises was absent 32 days and the group that practiced meditation at work has missed only 16 days. The reason for the lowest number of days for the people of the group that practiced meditation are more resistant to the attacks of the respiratory infections says Walter Helwich.

Because there is only a few studies of this kind, the results are considered as preliminary and they are still containing a big “what if” that is relating to the question of that whether the exercise or the meditation can prevent the future disease.

The Dilemma

“The Dilemma” from Ron Howard, is a comedy about Ronny (Vince Vaughn) who has seen his friend’s wife with another guy and has decided to find out what is really happening. The topic of this movie is the men – partnership friendship. Allan Loeb is the author of this interesting story, where the humor is mixed with the dramaturgy in an authentic living situation that is providing the ability for identification of the average viewer with the two main characters says Walter Helwich.

Ronny and Nick (Kevin James) are two partners, whose friendship is dating from 20 years ago. They are having a company for design of the engines. Their dream is to break into the market and to draw the attention of some major automobile companies.

Ronny and Nick are meeting with the leaders of the powerful ‘Chrysler’ and convincing them that they are able to do a project that will significantly improve the performance of the engines. Since there was a deadline for the project, they are working with a lot of enthusiasm, controlled by Susan Warner (Queen Latifah), a representative of the company. But an unexpected event is threatening to terminate their long years of friendship.

With choosing an intriguing topic, Howard is “serving” a story that definitely is not cliché comedy, in which always in the end the love wins. Here, things are a little different. There is a humor but at some moments there is a black humor too.

The finale of “The Dilemma” was not offered something unexpected and as Walter Helwich is saying the end is very predictable, which is typical for the most of the comedies. The evaluation for this movie is that the filmmakers from the ‘Universal Pictures’ boldly entered in this project, where they were tried to offer something fresh, regardless of the commercial aspect. The comedy lovers who already watched this movie are somewhat enthusiastic and less disappointed too.

Albert Nobbs

The major role in Albert Nobbs is done by Glenn Close. She is also involved in the adaptation of the scenario, in the production of the movie and even in the original soundtrack says Walter Helwich. Rodrigo García is the director of this movie, which was a challenge for him. It is based on the short story ‘Albert Nobbs’ written by Irish author George Moore. The action of this movie is in Dublin, Ireland, in the late 19th century (in this period Ireland is not independent from the British Empire) were a woman is trying to go through the life alone. But the independence from the men necessitated certain sacrifices. She is forced to “transform” herself in a man and in the public she is Albert Nobbs. Transforming in the man is a way for rising herself from the destitution. Also it is a chance for working at the ‘Morrison Hotel’ as a waiter.

In all her life she was saving money and dreaming of that one day to become “her own boss” i.e. to be owner of the grocery store. The unexpected friendship with the handsome Hubert (Janet McTeer) who was hired to paint the walls of a hotel rooms, will change her life of this quiet, very valuable and conscientious person.

Glenn Close’s acting is impressive. She had an excellent support by Janet McTeer, and several of their shared scenes have a strong impact because the actions are giving the emotional impact. From the male characters Brendan Gleeson played the suggestive character Dr. Hollorana, a man who is prone to the hedonism, no matter that he did not always fit with the rigid social norms of behavior in the public.

Good photography combined with the great costumes and makeup are contributing one historical epoch to have better approach to today’s audience says Walter Helwich. Most of the scenes are in Dublin, which is the reason for reaching the required authenticity of the whole story.
